Eden Rain releases “beautifully immersive” new single ‘Great Nothing’

Yorkshire-born indie pop artist Eden Rain has released her second single of the year so far.

Great Nothing, ‘an ode to the situationship to end all situationships’, blends dreamy vocals and an occasionally sombre piano melody resulting in a beautifully immersive tune that laments on the difficulties of friendships that ‘could’ve been something more but absolutely [weren’t]’.

The first chorus remains quiet to some extent, with Rain’s voice remaining on the softer - and evidently more fed up - side as she sings “Now we won’t ever find our way back to where we were / The great nothing, great nothing”. The steady tempo keeps listeners hooked as strings join the second verse, where Rain’s vulnerability returns in the lyrics “Kicking stones at car doors / Walking home and feeling nauseous / But I didn’t see it coming / Couldn’t talk you down from jumping”.

Backing vocals intensify as does Rain’s voice itself, her frustration at this ruined friendship making itself evident through the growing power of her voice in the second chorus before dipping into a quiet confession (“I’ll always miss the way it was”) and then rising into a final passionate refrain to close off the song.

If this talent-packed track is anything to go by, it seems 2024 will be a fantastically successful year for Eden Rain.

Listen to Great Nothing now.
