Upcoming Leeds band Cateyes releases explosive dual single

Cateyes is an up-and-coming art-rock band from Leeds. With melds of LA grunge and Japanese math rock, they are back with another explosive new dual single.

I know why/Flight paths promises to captivate listeners with dazzling, guitar-driven melodies, mesmerising effects, and sincere lyrics about painful love,” the group told Crescendo.

I Know Why brings a beautiful ode to Shoegaze that is ‘lost in the maze of love’s unanswered questions’ detailing the journey of drifting apart. It showcases a fast-paced harmonic riff with that Math-rock feel, followed by a chorus that feels like a lost My Bloody Valentine track with beautifully layered, harmonised vocals. Being thrown into this whirlwind of emotions, you understand the highs and lows of past relationships that most of us can relate to.

“At its core, I know why is about the bittersweet experience of loving someone deeply, and feeling the need to hold on despite feeling increasingly distant,” the band explained.

Flightpaths take you on a journey like another. The dreamy verses soar you through the clouds and make you feel light as a feather to collide in the choruses of heavily distorted guitars and punchy drums, making you want to mosh and headbang. However, there is consistency throughout the soft, warm vocals guiding you through the track.

Both these tracks bring the raw energy of this band, as each track is recorded live to capture “that infectious energy and heartfelt sincerity.” Released on the 19th of April, this Cateyes dual single takes you through all the emotions.

If there is a band that shouldn’t be missed this year, it is Cateyes.
