Sonny Syd explores childhood memories on nostalgic new single ‘Try Again in Green’

London-based folk artist Sonny Syd has released ‘Try Again in Green’, a nostalgic new single imbued with wistful childhood memories.

Recorded back in October 2023 with lead producer Callum McGuinness (State 51) and instrumentalists Dina Wilcock (Route 500 & Lando Manning) and Joe Taylor (Anna B Savage & Penelope Isles), the track marks the third release by Syd, who started creating music in his twenties.

Following Sooner See and Dry Stone Love, which were produced by Alice Western, Try Again in Green tells us the memories of Syd’s childhood, the highs and lows and moments questioning the philosophy of life.

Reflecting on his past through the lens of colours, Syd imagines alternate realities, considering how life could have changed had his childhood been different.

‘In my head the tone of and colours of my childhood are always dominated by blues and purples,” Syd explained. “The song is an attempt to recollect some of these memories that I have of growing up in that house, questioning certain things as to whether or not they should or could have been different, and if it was possible, would it be worth trying again? Possibly in a different way, or colour? Green?”

Try Again in Green, which draws from artists like Lianne La Havas and Sasami, is the perfect spring to summer melody, transporting us back to a carefree time when life was there for us to create.
