Live Review: The Driver Era at E-Werk Cologne
Glittered-up fans in cowboy hats and boots packed the venue way before show time to secure the best spots. Some of them brought signs or even selfmade shirts to give to the band. Everyone was more than excited to see tonight’s show.
The musical duo consisting of brothers Ross and Rocky Lynch initially gained fame as members of the band R5, which included their other siblings. Since forming The Driver Era in 2018, they have focused on a more mature sound, blending elements of pop, rock, and indie music.
The band is known for their engaging live performances, where they connect with fans through their energetic stage presence, catchy melodies and relatable lyrics. Most of their concerts feature a mix of new material with R5 classics, and in this case even some covers of well-known hits, creating a nostalgic yet fresh experience for attendees.
Support acts Your Favourite Colour and Almost Monday opened the night brilliantly, and their vibrant performances levelled the crowds energy up for the main set.
Eventually the lights went darker and the Lynch brothers came onto the stage. Their set kicked off off with an unreleased song called “Touch”, whose lyrics most fans in the front row already knew. Alongside their hit “Get Off My Phone”, the band also performed several covers such as Billie Eilish’s “Birds Of A Feather” and the catchy indie track “Disco” by Surf Curse.
For the acoustic version of “Heart Of Mine” the band gathered around the piano to sing into one microphone, their voices harmonising beautifully while the fans danced slowly, holding their phone flashlights up.
After that, their catchy and upbeat classics “Malibu”, “Preacher Man” and “A Kiss” filled the audience with an even higher energy level than before, with fans dancing and singing their hearts out to every single song.
There wasn’t a drop in energy from the start of their set to the encore, making it clear that this is definitely a show music fans don’t want to miss. With their vibrant stage presence, diversity of feel-good-tunes and catchy dance moves, a fun night is guaranteed, even if you don’t know every song by heart!
