DISCOTEC release punchy new single The Ballroom
London-based trio DISCOTEC has returned with a brand-new release that takes a turn on its heels towards a dancier, 90s inspired track. With a combination of hi-hat beats and punchy bass lines, The Ballroom certainly does not miss a step.
DISCOTEC’s previous releases tend to lean towards a funkier sound, in particular their debut single Hypnotised, so this is a new realm of exploration for them. With a slower, swaying beat, Hypnotised hones in on their talent surrounding soul music composition.
Their second release, Empty Spaces, which also came out this year, picks up the pace with energetic rhythms and fast, breathless delivery of the lyrics, but doesn’t enter into dance territory just yet. The band decided to make the leap into dance with The Ballroom, and landed squarely on their feet with it by introducing a slow transition into the genre rather than a complete rebrand of their signature sound.
Opening with distant guitar licks fading into the listener’s ears, the vocals follow closely behind and blend sweetly with an infectious beat to create a fizzy, excitable ambience in The Ballroom. This track invites you in on a delicious high-energy storyline - a one-way, guilt-free ticket to let your hair down at the club. The lyrics “welcome to the ballroom, won’t you take a peek inside” encourage listeners to join the band’s bubbly high. Lead vocals come from Lweji Padre, and her soulful, heartfelt melodies draw your attention instantly.
DISCOTEC are known for their relatable, heartfelt lyricism, and they stick to this signature writing style in The Ballroom. Made up of Lweji Padre, Fergus Smith, and Sonny Wicks Skinner, the group take inspiration from a mix of soul, disco and dance influences. You can truly hear this bleeding into their latest number.
A new talent on the scene, it looks like DISCOTEC have a lot in store for their fans and, with the success of their first two releases, are without a doubt on the rise. Watch this space.
